Running B2B Facebook ads: how to spend less in the cold-start phase

In the cold-start phase you are buying information, not orders. Four ways to keep a first B2B Facebook campaign from burning budget.

Cold start has a different goal

In the cold-start phase you are not chasing orders — you are buying information. Which audience responds, which creative stops the scroll, which market has affordable reach. Judge the first weeks by cost per qualified conversation, not by cost per inquiry form.

Four ways to spend less

1. Start narrow
One product line, one or two markets, one clear buyer role. Broad targeting burns budget on people who will never buy industrial goods from a new brand.

2. Use interest and job-title signals, not interests alone
For B2B, audience definitions built on job titles, industry pages and lookalikes of your existing customers outperform lifestyle interests.

3. Test creative in small batches
Run several creatives with small budgets in parallel, keep the two that get real replies, and put the remaining budget behind them. Changing creative is usually cheaper than changing audience.

4. Send traffic somewhere that qualifies
Paid clicks should land on a page matched to the ad — a product page with specs and a short form asking market, channel and volume. A homepage visit wastes most of the click.

Habits that protect the budget

  • Set a daily cap and do not raise it mid-week to "see what happens".
  • Judge by conversations, not impressions.
  • Pause anything with spend and zero replies after a fair test window.
  • Keep publishing organic content in parallel, so the profile a click lands on looks alive.
  • Learn the mechanics yourself — that is the point of coached campaigns; the skill stays after the budget is gone.

Our Facebook ads coaching includes a coached campaign with a 1,000 RMB ad budget, precisely so the first experiment is small and the learning stays in-house.
